Render, like all things can get a bit grubby over time. If you don’t clean your car or your windows, they become grubby and dirty and render is no different. Brick, cladding, fencing, glass, paint everything that is left outside can get a bit grubby over time. Luckily render is very easy to keep looking its best if some basic routine maintenance is carried out. Like having your windows cleaned, render loves a wash down. You can do this yourself, or there are a number of specialist companies that are very experienced in this. For now let’s assume you are going to do this yourself. You don’t need much, but a trip to Screwfix or B&Q (there are other suppliers out there…) and grab a small 7l hand pump vacuum sprayer. They are not too expensive and can be used for lots of odd jobs round the house when you aren’t cleaning your render. Now buy some Alkem for your local Rowebb depot. Available in 5l and 25l drums, Alkem is an environmentally friendly algaecide that works very well on most grime, dirt and algae that we come across. It can be diluted down 1:5 with fresh clean water, or used neat for areas that need a bit more oooomph. Add/dilute this in your spray bottle and then you are ready to go. Choose a dry day and a time when you are forecast to have a few dry days thereafter to give the Alkem a chance to work. Don’t apply this on a windy day as you will only be causing yourself more problems than you need. Use protective equipment and remember, this is an algaecide and should be treated with care. It is not lemonade…… Now you have chosen a good day for the application, spray it onto the render from top to bottom. Be careful that you cover the entire area. You don’t want a big grubby patch in the middle of a beautiful clean wall at the end. Spray each elevation with your Alkem mix and the leave it. Once everything has been sprayed you really are finished. Just sit back and wait for the Alkem to kill off any algae and the rain will wash it off. If you feel it isn’t quite clean enough, give it another treatment. Some times it can take 2 or 3 treatments, depending on the location or how much maintenance has been carried out over the years. Each job is slightly different.
We can also supply some more aggressive cleaners if required, but please call us for details on this. Alkem is a great product and should improve most areas.

First you need to know what substrate you are working from. Then you need to know what finish you would like and what system you would like to use. If you use the wrong base coat for your substrate then the render may fail. We offer 9 base coat options, so it is important to check before progressing
Everything weathers with time. A render is no different and will need sporadic maintenance to keep looking its best. An annual treatment of Alkem fungicidal wash will keep any algae at bay (especially if applied in the autumn). Heavier stains may require a treatment with ARC cleaner. After time, a coat of Propel will improve the water & dirt repellence of the render and possibly after lengthy severe exposure, a coat of a silicate based paint from JUB.
We have a full range of natural stone with a variety of textures. Whilst everything can be slippy when covered in snow or ice, with some seasonal maintenance, most of our paving will remain anti-slip even when wet. Alkem is a great product for some minimal annual maintenance that will keep the paving looking clean and fresh, reducing the growth of algae and reducing the likelihood of slipping.
The final render is the most important part of the build. Before moving on, you must make a decision on the texture of your render. Drydash, Scratch, Roughcast of Texture. All of these finishes will offer you something different. A cementitious render will change with the weather and seasons on the other hand a synthetic render will remain the same regardless of the weather. Sometimes planners will demand a certain finish, however, with sample preparation and compromise, we can normally offer a solution that works for all parties. Just when you thought your important decisions had been made…. you now need to choose the colour!
We are very conscious about where we source our products from. We have rejected numerous products and suppliers over the years as we had doubts over their sources, quality and longevity. We believe that with the careful supplier and product monitoring that we carry our, our products are free from exploitative child labour and that a high standard of welfare is maintained at all times.
