Kilwaughter Chemical Company are based in Larne, Northern Ireland and produce a range of base coats, scratch renders, dash receivers and synthetic thin coat renders. With the recent addition of an algae inhibitor to complement the silicone additive for improved render performance, the K-Rend range of renders are amongst the most advanced mineral renders on the market
Rowebb are Kilwaughters Premium Distributor in Scotland for the K-Rend range of polymer cement renders. This allows us to offer out customers a comprehensive range of base coats, dash receivers, hand and machine applied top coat renders and a range of synthetic acrylic and silicone based thin coat renders from stock.
The K-Rend range includes base coats suitable for most substrates. To ensure you have a successful render system applied to your building that will offer the performance longevity that you require, it is important to select the correct base coat. We offer solutions for most substrates including; clay bricks and blocks, insulation boards, lightweight blocks, existing painted and un-painted renders, sandstone and standard blockwork. Please contact our Head Office for technical support and site-specific specifications.
UF Base Coat is the standard base coat for new block applications prior to finishing with an approved top coat. It can be applied by hand or machine and will be finished either with a K-Rend dash receiver, scratch render or K-Rend thin coat render.
Approx coverage: 1.8sqm/25kg bag@8mm
UF Fibre Base Coat is a fibre reinforced version of the Standard UF Base Coat that can be applied by hand or machine. It would be used over metal laths and concrete block where the suction may be slightly higher than usual, or impact resistance is a premium consideration. With the inclusion of the fibres, the impact and flexural strength is improved.
Approx coverage: 1.8sqm/25kg bag@8mm
HP12 Base Coat is a cement rich base coat normally applied to a thickness of 4-6mm and is usually applied by hand. It is used over brick, concrete or previously painted render with the inclusion of scrim cloth and nylon fixings.. It can also be used a base coat for tiling and has a high resistence to chlorinated water. HP12 is a very versatile base coat that can be used in numerous tricky situations.
Approx coverage: 1.8sqm/25kg bag@6mm
HP14 Base Coat is a high polymer base coat that is applied by hand to a wide variety of substrates, particularly insulation boards. It is designed as the ideal background for thin-coat organic resin based renders such as K-Rend Silicone TC.
Approx Coverage: 2.3sqm/25kg bag@6mm
HPX Base Coat is a very flexible fibre reinforced base coat used over render boards, insulation and lightweight block, with the inclusion of scrim cloth. It is normally applied to a thickness of 4-6mm by hand or machine and can be used as a base coat for scraped render, dash receiver and silicone and acrylic thin coat renders.
Approx coverage: 3.0sqm/25kg bag@4mm
GP Backing Coat is a basic pre-blended sand and cement base coat that can be applied by hand or machine. It is used as an internal pargetting render and for basic external base coat applications. It can also be used as a pre-bagged mortar for blockwork.
Approx coverage: 1.6sqm/25kg bag@8mm
Silicone Overcoat Dash Receiver is a high performance lightweight dash receiver for general drydash applications. It can be applied by hand or machine and includes silicone and an algae inhibitor to improve water repellence and reduce and algae and mildew growth. It has excellent coverage rates, is available in the full K-Rend colour palette and is the chosen product for the professional applicator.
Approx Coverage: 2.5 sqm/20kg bag@8mm
Silicone Dash Receiver can be applied by hand or machine over a K-Rend base coat. It provides a robust substrate for the traditional K-Rend Silicone Roughcast finish or a Decarock Drydash aggregate. With the inclusion of an algicide and silicone technology, this dash receiver will perform well into the future.
Approx Coverage: 1.9sqm/25kg bag@6mm
K-Rend scraped texture renders are IS0 9001 approved and are BBA certified.
Our general method for obtaining a smooth or flat render is to use Silicone FT Fine Tex Scratch Render. This can be troweled and floated and left smooth, although we would always advise that it be textured to remove any blemishes or lime bloom. The preferred option is to apply Silicone FT to a full render thickness and then to float or scratch this render. Additionally, the fine grading of this material leads to a very fine textured render that is ideally suited for a JUB paint final coat in your desired colour if required.
Silicone FT (hand applied) 25kg bag is a fine scratch render. It is applied to slightly more than the finished thickness required and after an initial set has been achieved, a scratch render float is passed over the render removing 2 or 3mm. The surface is then brushed down with a clean soft brush to achieve an attractive broken stone effect.
Approx Coverage: 1.6sqm/bag@10mm or 1.0sqm/bag@16mm
Silicone “E” Grade 25kg bag is the machine applied version of Silicone FT offering the same fine broken stone texture but can be applied very quickly to large areas by machine instead of by hand. It has all of the same attributes as the hand applied product with the inclusion of silicone for improved water repellency and an algicide to reduce algae growth and improved dirt resistance. It is normally the applicators choice as to the selection between FT or “E” Grade Scratch render as the both offer the same high quality render finish once applied. It is the method of application that is the difference between the 2 products
Approx Coverage: 1.0sqm/bag@16mm
K1 (hand or machine applied) 25kg bag is a fine scratch render that can be applied by either hand or machine. Once finished, it will leave a fine broken stone effect slightly finer to the Silicone FT or “E” Grade finish but still with excellent weathering characteristics.
Approx Coverage: 1.6sqm/bag@10mm or 1.0sqm/bag@16mm
K-Rend Silicone Roughcast is a traditional wet dash finish achieved with a fully blended product straight from the bag with only the addition of clean water required. Incorporating a 4-6mm limestone aggregate, this render is applied over a coat of silicone dash receiver in the same colour as the top coat. With the inclusion of silicone and an algae inhibitor, this is a high performance take on the traditional wetdash finish. Available in the complete range of K-Rend colours offering a full through coloured render.
Approx Coverage: 2.5-3.5sqm/25kg bag (subject to the texture of coat applied)
